[RISK]- Ford reveals new Explorer only on Facebook Page

Posted on July 26, 2010 in Social Media in Wichita Kansas by JuggleMedia

This morning Ford is taking a large risk by forgoing the traditional auto show in favor of a Facebook reveal of the new 2011 Ford Explorer. Could sticking with Fords new digital marketing strategy help the company sell more Explorers while Jeep promotes their new Grand Cherokee?

Ford’s Facebook Page for the Explorer, when this blog was posted, had just over 45,000 fans attached to the page. No doubt an ever-growing audience size that Ford can nurture, grow and hopefully use as Facebook page ambassidors. As of right now, there is very little page interaction between the Ford page and it’s fans. Probably due to the amount of traffic and press being generated during the launch.

Interesting to note that the new Explorer isn’t available for another 6 months. Can Ford keep this momentum for a half a year to transition fans into sales? If the success of the Ford Fiesta campaign is any indication, I’d say yes.

Visit the new 2011 Ford Explorer Facebook page and click “Reveal” to see today’s events.
